Il y a deux types de joueur de Stray Whiskers. Il y a les joueurs traditionnels, qui vont tout faire pour finir le jeu efficacement, fonçant vers la droite, évitant les obstacles et ne portant que peu d'attention à ce qu'ils croisent sur leur route. Ceux-là joueront à un platformer tout à fait correct pour un jeu réalisé en 48h, mais qui manque un peu de challenge, qui est un peu ennuyeux.
Naviguer au radeau pneumatique et revolver dans une piscine remplie du sang de ses adversaires...voilà une idée qui aurait pu aboutir à un sommet de gore et de provocation, on en est pourtant loin dans Above Hell, un jeu qui préfère la mettre au service d'un gameplay particulièrement novateur.
Pourquoi portons-nous un costard ? Que foutons-nous sur ce radeau pneumatique ? Combien de centaines de litre de sang y-a-t-il dans les corps pourtant normalement proportionnés de ces ennemis ? Comment fait le barillet de ce revolver pour contenir toutes ces balles ? Above Hell ne tente même pas d'apporter la moindre réponse. L'univers qu'il présente a beau être totalement absurde, il ne suffira que d'une minute ou deux pour finalement le trouver des plus naturels, tant chacun de ces éléments inexpliqué joue un rôle capital dans le gameplay, et se trouve par là même complètement justifié.

Randall Munroe
En 2012, Randall Munroe publiait sur son webcomic XKCD une planche aux frontières du jeu vidéo, Click & Drag. Cette ode à l'exploration avait ensuite été transformée en platformer par le collectif Kajakklubben (Press & Move) et c'est peut-être ce qui a donné à Munroe l'idée de son Hoverboard.
Mario, Pacman, Tetris, autant de jeux consacrés, connus de tous, qui sont à l’Oujevipo ce qu’El Desdichado de Gérard de Nerval sont à l’Oulipo : Un espace infini d’expérimentations.
Madris, issu de l’AGBIC, en est une nouvelle, d’experimentation, cette fois sous la forme d’un jeu-valise mêlant Tetris aux Sims. Difficile à imaginer ? Et pourtant…
Les traditionnels blocs carrés, T, Z ou L sont remplacés par des chambres, cuisines, toilettes, et il ne s’agit plus de créer des lignes mais des maisons, en en assemblant les pièces.
